Keep a Lid on Anarchy with a Coat Stand

coat stand

Have you ever noticed how tidy the house is when there’s no one else home? Feelings of peace, calm and contentment seem within grasp when you can see the spaces and everything is in its place. This is of course a fragile mirage, an oasis of calm which evaporates the moment the front door opens and the hordes march on in.

They don’t exactly do it on purpose, and there certainly isn’t any malice involved, but kids just seem gifted at creating disorder and mess wherever they go. From the front door to the fridge, and from there to the television, there is the random trail of coats, hats, gloves, a shoe (hang on, there should be two of these), perhaps establishing some border line – “From this point chaos rules”, between your world and theirs.

Fair enough, most of us were this way when we were children. I myself was the proud architect of several household disasters in my youth. Such is the way of children, and most wise parents know this is the way of things and push on with wry amusement.  A strategically placed coat stand can make a huge difference to this daily struggle.

With some repetitive tuition on the wonders and importance of the coat stand and why we should be placing things like coats on it, even dedicated masterminds of household evil can get the hint and get into the habit. Once that’s under control you should be able to appreciate the style benefits that can accompany a good coat stand. Now when everyone’s out and the coat stand (or coat and hat stand if you want the maximum benefit) is bare, you should hopefully be left with a classy piece of ornamental furniture.

As so, style. For couples this is not a problem, there are far more varieties that can cater for couples than families. Obviously, for a large family, your coat stand needs to accommodate them. This will reduce the choices slightly but with the amount of manufacturers competing online these days you should still be able to find something that works for you.

The main thing is to be sure it covers your needs in a practical sense. Then you need to consider how it will fit in with its surroundings, and choose your materials and style accordingly. With a little research you should be able to find something that looks pretty classy when everyone’s out, and does a great job of keeping anarchy at bay when they are home.
