It’s all to do with getting up in the morning. Sounds strange but trust me when I say, that I have discovered the simple addition of a bedside cabinet into my life has reaped some unexpected health benefits. I am categorically not an eager and enthused person early in the morning. Frankly, I am like the bear that woke up three hours earlier than nature intended, because Goldilocks reset his alarm clock. Less Yogi Bear than bawling grizzly I am sorry to say.
Part of the problem is my natural tendency to stay up into the wee small hours, only venturing to bed as a last resort, defeated and truly crashed. This obviously fuels my beds magnet like qualities early in the morning, as I am generally over tired when I live like this. Believe it or not, just sticking a bedside cabinet next to my bed is helping me change all this.
For one thing, I know where my alarm clock is now. I personally use two phones, one as a backup if I have something important to do, and used to play find the phones every morning. This could take a while depending on how far my erratic night time movements had flung them. Who needs these little nuggets of grief? Nice and easy now, I don’t even have to open my eyes to switch them to snooze.
The practical uses of having somewhere to put a book, newspaper, glass of water, pen and notepad, I could go on. All this is making bed seem like a pretty good option even when gripped by insomnia. Being able to read comfortably or jot a few ideas down really help me unwind a bit and before I know it I’m out like a light. Having a place for the water means I am actually drinking some when I need to, and not ignoring the thirst in favor of slumber. Just having it more available is helping me get back into the habit of re-hydrating properly.
So to summarize – no, the bedside cabinet is not made with some ancient Amazonian wood that has secret magical healing properties, you can find that elsewhere in the internet I am sure. It has just made it much easier and more natural for me to take a little extra restorative time in bed. When it comes to your daily routines, the subtlest of changes can effect significant changes purely through repetition.
